Welcome to December in Grade 4 -
We are having a lot of fun playing a version of the well known television series "Survivor" in Grade 4 at the moment. This week we kicked things off with a few physical challenges and one "immunity" challenge. Unlike the show we don't vote people off, but rather play for points. . . it has been a great week full of fun and great team work being shown by all of the tribes. You can see some pictures of our three tribes; Wemba Wemba, Wurundjeri and Yorta Yorta below as they set up for the Tug O' War challenge on the oval. Looking forward to many more challenges as December goes on!

Writing Procedures
Recently we have had a lot of fun writing procedures in Grade 4. . . the "design brief" was for students create a toy using blocks or other building materials in the room. Afterwards, students were asked to "reverse engineer" their toys, photograph the steps and write instructions on how to rebuild it. We all had a lot of fun re-building some of our classmate's toys using their step by step instructions! Have a look at some of the photos from our toy building session below. . .

A Day at the Farm. . .
Last week as a celebration of our Farm to Fork unit, all of Middle School visited Edendale Farm in Eltham.
It was a wonderful day out, with many of us learning something new about the way our food comes to us. We had lots of fun planting a couple of seeds to bring home, as well as spending time on a working farm, patting animals and wandering through their wonderful fruit and vegie patches!
Georgia said that "My favourite part of the day was when we got shown how to make a vegie garden."
Ruby M said "I loved seeing all the animals."
"I loved feeding the sheep." - Sophie
Jessie said "I really liked how we got to plant peas and lettuces and then bring them home in pots."
We had a wonderful time at the farm - have a look at photographs below!

Compound Word Pictionary
Hi everyone!
This week we have had fun during literacy exploring compound words. Everyone enjoyed the task "Compound Word Pictionary" where we broke into two teams and each illustrated our compound words. The competition was tight and on this occasion ended in a draw! We look forward to playing this again sometime soon - have a look at some of the pictures below from today's wonderful session. Term Two Chills!
Welcome to back another term in Grade 4A!
We are very excited this term to be having cookery in the canteen kitchen which has now been re-fitted for us to use. So far this term we have already prepared several dips, home made pitta crisps and vegetable soup - apparently this has been a great hit with everyone, and students have been discussing how they have gone home and made soup for their families!
Quidditch has started with a bang already, and we are now two rounds in for the wonderful Grade 3s and 4s who are braving the cold to play on Tuesday lunchtimes. Remember to rug up!

Welcome to 4A 2017!
Welcome back for another exciting year at KPS!
4A have got off to a flying start this year, and we have many CALC ("creating a learning community") activities now under our belt. The most important of these were our personal goal setting (which we will discuss with parents and caregivers at the upcoming Parent Teacher interviews) as well as creating a code of conduct for our classroom.
We have also had some exciting visits to start the year already in Grade 4: on Monday of this week students were visited by Alison from St John Ambulance. Students were able to practice CPR and learn about what to do when there is an emergency. Students loved this free program, and all of them felt it was a valuable reminder of what to do when providing first aid.
Today (Thursday) we have been outside participating in tennis "Hot Shots" clinics. We all enjoyed the opportunity to practice our tennis skills outside in the cool of the morning!
We look forward to many more wonderful things happening in our grade this year!

Gizmos, Gadgets, Feathers and Leaves!
What an intriguing start to a blog post! This term is 3B we are studying the topic "Feathers, Fur and Leaves" for science - our budding investigators have already begun to explore what biological systems are and how things in our lives are catagorised. We have started a Science Table and Chat board with 3A and below are our current exhibits - and our new class pet, Fang!
During this term we are also beginning to investigate Simple Machines - or Gizmos and Gadgets. All of our students have enjoyed bringing in their simple machines from home: below our budding inventor Matt shows off his home made pulley while Josh proudly holds his drone! Great job on bringing these in for share and learn everyone!
We're looking forward to camp now, and as we head towards the end of year, to the exciting times we still have ahead in 3B!
