What an intriguing start to a blog post! This term is 3B we are studying the topic "Feathers, Fur and Leaves" for science - our budding investigators have already begun to explore what biological systems are and how things in our lives are catagorised. We have started a Science Table and Chat board with 3A and below are our current exhibits - and our new class pet, Fang!
During this term we are also beginning to investigate Simple Machines - or Gizmos and Gadgets. All of our students have enjoyed bringing in their simple machines from home: below our budding inventor Matt shows off his home made pulley while Josh proudly holds his drone! Great job on bringing these in for share and learn everyone!
We're looking forward to camp now, and as we head towards the end of year, to the exciting times we still have ahead in 3B!

Let's Upcycle!
Hello students and parents of 3B -
Our topic this term is "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle", and with that in mind we spent a fantastic afternoon using newspapers that would have ordinarily been thrown straight in the bin to make structures. Our challenge was to re-use the newspapers to create a cubby house, structure or shelter for one of the Grade 3s to sit underneath. We had a wonderful time making these structures and getting another use our of waste paper. Later this week we are upcycling old water bottles and clothes to make "Bubble Snake Makers" - recycling can be a lot of fun!

A big finish to term in 3B!
Welcome back to 3B!
We have had an amazing couple of weeks in 3B! This week we were treated to an Athletics clinic where we participated in a lot of activities such as hurdling, running and javelin throwing (the javelins were rubber chickens!) We all had a wonderful time during this clinic: thanks Ms G for organising this extra sports clinic for us!
We also had our celebration incursion for our "Inventors" Unit. Karen from TechKids ran a fantastic program where we built and programmed a model spinning top. What a wonderful way to finish off our unit discovering inventions! Have a look at some photos from our incursion below. . .

Something Wonderful. . .
Welcome again to 3B's blog!
We have been busy in our grade over the past several weeks preparing for Open Night, Education week and also NAPLAN. All students handled their first official testing period with great maturity: well done everyone in Grade 3 on getting the first NAPLANs under your belt!
Along with the business of the past few weeks we have also been focusing on narrative writing, culminating in each student publishing a picture story book of a fractured fairy tale. These have been very popular in both grades, and we have been sharing them during independent reading sessions.
Students have also been studying Inventions Around the World in their integrated unit. Combining both reading response skills and imagination, students were asked to create an invention of their own based on the book "Something Wonderful" by Raewyn Caisley & Karen Blair. Some of our budding inventors suggested the following:
* Eliza P said she would "borrow her neighbour's rabbits, connect them together and make a lawn mower
* Micheal B said he would make a large self-moving rabbit feeder
*Evie K said she would dismantle her computer to make a robot gymnastics teacher.
These were just some of the great ideas from our wonderful thinkers in 3B!

The term in review by Tehmi H.
What's been happening in 3B this term. . .
In 3B this term first we had CALC week. In CALC we made hands that on the fingers we wrote words like "friendship" and "environment". Then CALC week was finished.
Later on in the term a hockey clinic came to the school. 3B had a wonderful time doing that. Not long after we had a tennis clinic. We enjoyed that but not as much as the hockey clinics.
Towards the end of the term we did another CALC activity. We split into groups labelled 1 through to 12. Each group dressed 2 kids up in newspaper costumes made by the other kids in the group. For example, some groups made princess costumes of Wookie costumes and things like that. Much later in the term we started doing the Queens Writing Competition. We have all had a go at writing for all of the four tasks so we have a great selection of works for our teachers to choose from.
It has been a great term!

Bridge Building in Science
Hello everyone in 3B!
Last week in science we completed an interesting engineering task where we investigated "what makes a strong bridge".
We had several goes at this task after watching a presentation about various kinds of bridges and structures around the world. We then made our structures out of paper and tested their weight bearing properties using plastic building cubes. Some of structures held more than 100 cubes!
Tehmi said "I liked how everybody work together in our group in the end. . . we had a few arguments about what the best structure would be but we managed it in the end."
Georgia said, "I liked how we all tried out different strategies, even if one didn't work then you could always have a go at another one."
"The interesting part was finding out about how forces could help hold up the bridge." Josh commented as we discussed our findings during the week.
Perhaps we have some budding engineers in 3B!

Science!
On Friday we had Science (3A and 3B) in 3B's Room. We discovered that if you put food dye in milk water it will turn a colour. The colour depends of what colour you put in. The ingredients are: Milk, food dye, detergent, water, cup and spoon. Put any colour into the milk! Then swirl them both around. Put dish washing liquid (detergent) into the milk, and what do you think happened??? We ended up with a big ripple!!!!! Ms Jolly tried doing green and red into milk then added loads of dish washing liquid... It over lapped and went to the side! it was amazing a wonderfull to know this! You may try this at home! Have a parent to help.
