Hello parents and students of 3B -
Well - here we are, the final stages of 2015 are upon us. What an exciting term we have coming up! We are all looking forward to going on camp to Candlebark Farm, learning some exciting new skills during our Tri-skills program, as well as Bike Ed in the latter part of the year.
Last term we had an some amazing experiences both on and off site: our Skype session with the Joides Resolution science expedition was certainly a highlight, as well as our excursion to Polly Woodside. We have also enjoyed the new Science room and our experiments - especially the ice melting!
This term we have some changes to our timetable. Our week now looks like this:
Mondays: Literacy block, ICT and Maths
Tuesday: Literacy, Writing workshop, Maths and Integrated
Wednesdays: Maths, Art, Science, Collaborative Games and Tri Skills
Thursdays: Literacy, Integrated, ICT and PE
Fridays, Assembly, Performing Arts. Japanese, Literacy and Spelling reviews
Combined with reporting, this term is going to be full with lots of fun and engaging activities for our grade!

Pirate Ships - ahoy me hearties. . .
This week in 3B we have been working on our construction task for this term, pirate ships make from milk cartons.
We have been investigating all sorts of ships, as well as applying technical jargon to our constructions - so the students have all become very familiar with the terms hull, rigging and quarter deck.
We are looking forward to finishing our creations, as well as comparing them to the real thing when we climb aboard the Polly Woodside next Thursday!

Welcome back - CRASH, BASH, BANG!
Hello everyone in 3B -
Welcome back for another exciting term at KPS!
We have had some minor timetable changes for this term. On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday the students have PE, Performing Arts and Art respectively. On Friday morning directly after assembly they now have Japanese. Our literacy blocks remain the first sessions of the day with maths and spelling to follow as soon as practicable afterwards.
This week we have been working on onomatopoeia: words that mimic sounds. As we are gearing up for poetry writing, we spent this week looking at words that would evoke goods imagines in readers heads.
Have a look at our pop art onomatopoeia words below!

Maths with Grade 5s - how many jumps
During swimming our grade was lucky to have a visit from Mr McGrath and the grade 5s. We loved our problem solving session titled "How Many Hops". We had to calculate the amount of jumps it would take three oppossing sides of frogs to jump over each other and get to the other side of a game board. It was so much fun solving these problems and working with the Grade 5s!

Welcome back!
Dear parents and students of 3B -
Welcome back for another exciting term at KPS. This term's integrated topic is Australian Philanthropists; we will be focussing this term on those who do charitable acts, as well as focussing on how we can help others.
Our timetable this term looks like:
Literacy, Maths and Integrated topics happen largely before lunch.
Specialists are as follows:
Tuesday afternoon - PE
Wednesday before lunch - Japanese
Wednesday afternoon - Performing Arts
Thursday afternoon - Art
On Fridays we hand our homework in, including our reading list (record of our books we have read over the past week) and also have time for a bit of sport or stretching outside in the yard.
Just a reminder, students have book boxes available for them to access in class. It is expected that students will take a book every day, and can also supplement their reading with library and books from home. Please ensure your child is recording their reading in their diary.
We are all looking forward to another wonderful term at KPS - cheerio for now!

The (not so) Super Egg!
Today was a typical fun filled end of term day at KPS - Super Egg followed by the Kerrimuir gift. Below you can see our winner of the Grade "Thunderdome" Super Egg race - well done Irene! Alas, Super Egg (seen below being interviewed by event founder Mr Kelly) came fourth in the final, and according to Mr Kelly, Super Egg "didn't know where he went wrong" in the famous Kerrimuir race. Have a wonderful break everyone, and see you soon for a great start to Term 2!

Super Spellers!
In Grade 3B we have dedicated spelling rotations 4 days a week - this week we are practising a variety of skills and in particular using a new THRASS skill called 'finger spanning'. This works really well for identifying sounds in words, and breaking them down into smaller phonemes,. We have loved doing our spelling work this week - take a look!
